The author of the free and comprehensive photo editor PhotoFiltre, offers a few other free photo enhancing programs. This one - Photo Black and Color - makes it easy (compared to learning a powerful commercial program like PhotoShop) to add a popular effect to colour photos, by selecting one colour group to preserve, and changing all other colours to greyscale (black and white).

First, use the eye-dropper to create a palette of colors that exist in the photo; that is, those similar hues you want to preserve. Only that set of selected colour hues will be saved in the final image, upon execution. If you wish to preserve a second colour, go back to the original photo and continue selecting more hues. A Back button is provided for this purpose.

It is worth describing a few other free effects programs from the same author.

Reflet, an even older program, is able to create wave ripples in the foreground area of an image, and save it as an AVI video file.

Photo Mosaique can assemble many photos (of various hues and shades) into a different, newly-generated image, assembled from thumbnails of those photos. The programs takes care of using corresponding colors and densities to make a realistic, printable mosaic.

Scrutico gathers desktop icons into various other file formats, so you can use them elsewhere.

Visioimg is for presentations in which your photos take on a theme, like the defaulted Album theme, or the Alien theme, or one that you create yourself. Captions can be added.
