LosslessCut - for trimming, fixing video

Dash cams, security cams, drone cams, and sport cams produce hours of video, most of which will never need saving. Use LosslessCut to mark out areas to be saved quickly, without recoding. Do the same for removing commercials from recorded broadcasts. The program runs on Windows, Linux and macOS, without the need to install; it is therefore portable.

The resulant segments of video can be quickly merged into a single file of the same format, or more slowly re-saved in an alternate, re-encoded, format. Notice, below, that the Ted Barris video has been broken into two parts; each automatically given a title with time stamp information.

LosslessCut also takes full resolution screen shots, in jpeg or png formats. [See below.]

LosslessCut can rotate the video stream, which is handy for fixing some cell phone videos held in the horizontal.

Windows 10 complained, during the initial attempt to run the exe file, reporting that Microsoft has not okayed LosslessCut, viewing it as an "Unknown publisher". [Just bypass such warnings.]

In order to make a desktop shortcut, go to the downloaded location for LosslessCut and right-click the file. You'll see an option to Send to... shortcut to the Desktop.

Since the program is still in development, the GUI buttons, with shortened, suggestive, abbreviations may not be clear until either, hovering over to see a pop-up, or reading the online help page for a clearer and fuller explanation.

I was somewhat disappointed when .mts formatted videos, from a Sony camcorder, could not be handled by LosslessCut until recoded to a format that it could handle.

Since LosslessCut is based on Chromium and uses the HTML5 video player, not all ffmpeg supported formats will be supported directly. The following formats / codecs should generally work: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, OGG, WAV, MP3, AAC, H264, Theora, VP8, VP9. Click for more information about supported formats / codecs.

However, October's Featured Software, XMedia Recode, which transforms video and audio to other formats, can handle such files, and many others.
